One Thing to Do Over Break

For most the end of the fall semester will come either this week or next. At this point we breathe a deep sigh of relief, wrap up the few things we have left to do, and slip into campus ministry hibernation for the next month or so.

Campus ministry can be strenuous work, especially if you are able to put a lot of time into it. When you get to the end of a semester you can feel worn out and empty. So, may I suggest you do one thing over this break in order to refuel for the spring? One thing may seem too simple for some, and I’m sure you’ll end up having to do more than one thing when it comes down to it. You’ll inevitably have to (and should) do some planning for the spring semester, but I think the most important thing you can do is take time to pray.

While we should always be spending time in prayer for our groups and students, when we’re weary and need rejuvenation the best thing we can do is pray. I’ve found that you lose your passion when you stop praying. It’s only through prayer that we can connect with the Father’s heart and gain clear vision for what He wants to do on our campus and in students’ lives.

I want to encourage you to pray for your BASIC group regularly over this winter break. Will you commit to praying for at least 1 hour a week? If you already pray regularly will you commit to doubling your prayer time for the campus? I believe that as you take the time to pray you will not only be refreshed, but God will reveal His plans and refill you with a passion for your campus.
