My wife and I moved to Lima, NY to work with BASIC in 2009. It’s a tiny town (really a village) with a population of just over 2,000. It’s funny how I never thought I’d live in a place smaller than the city I grew up in, which officially has a population of 18,000. Now that I live in Lima I’m pretty sure I can say I live in a place where the cows outnumber the people (I tried to confirm this as fact, but had no luck).
As I drive past the many farms sometimes I’m reminded of what Jesus says in Luke 10.
“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.”
The Harvest is Plentiful
Jesus exhorted the disciples that the harvest is plentiful and I believe it’s still true today. The fall is the time of harvest for us in the Northeast and I believe it coincides perfectly with what God wants to do on our campuses. Will you join me in praying for a plentiful harvest on college campuses this fall?
The Workers Are Few
Even if you are a large campus ministry it’s nearly impossible to reach your entire campus through just the work of a few staff people or advisors, especially if college ministry isn’t your full-time gig. Let’s ask the Lord to ignite students with a greater desire to reach the lost than ever before.
Lambs Among Wolves
Just as Jesus told the disciples they were being sent out as lambs among wolves it is no different for students on college campuses today. We must pray for God’s protection and guidance as we go out to share the Gospel. There will be opposition, but if we remember Ephesians 2:10 we can trust that God will help us complete the tasks He has already prepared for us. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
I’m believing the Lord for a greater fall harvest of souls on campuses than ever before in BASIC’s history. I challenge you to join me in believing and praying for that for your campus. Let’s remember the number one reason we are in college ministry – to reach the lost.
