DAY 1
I’ve met many people who truly want to have a quiet time (time spent reading their Bible and praying) each day, but they never find time to make it work. They have good hearts, just not good priorities. Good intentions are much different than good actions.
The secret to being intentional is not really that big a secret; it starts with caring. Have you ever noticed that when you get a new car, it suddenly seems like everyone around you has the same model? You never noticed it before, but now you see it everywhere on the road. Did everyone else hear you got that car and decide to follow suit so they could be trendy like you? No, they’ve been driving that car for awhile now, but because it’s something you care about, it has become something you notice. As self-centered as it is, humans naturally pay attention to the things they care about.
In the same way, you won’t put time into developing a relationship with God if you don’t care about it. King David of the Bible knew this to be true. David was known as someone who was close to God. He was known as someone who spent time in God’s presence regularly and yet this is what he said in one of the psalms, “O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”
You see, David had discovered that to be close to God you have to be consistently taking time to seek Him. He cared about being close to God because he knew it was the most important aspect of his life.
When you gave your life to the Lord, you began a relationship. But that’s exactly what it was – a beginning. If you decide not to build on, not to foster that beginning relationship, then you will find yourself completely unsatisfied as a Christian. You’ll be looking around thinking, I thought they told me there was more to this. I thought they told me Christianity was the answer. Am I still missing out? And the answer is Yes, you are. You are missing out because you’ve neglected to keep working on the relationship that you began with God.
Look, if you haven’t been investing time into your relationship with God, He isn’t upset with you for that, but rather He’s thinking to Himself, I really love spending time with you. I want you to get to know Me more. And it’s when you take that time to seek Him that you will then experience how incredible living the Christian life can be. Nothing is more worth your time than your relationship with God.
