We heard a variation of this message time and time again throughout BASICCON, but I’m here to remind you that even though the conference is over, the hype has slowed down, and you’re back to your day-to-day life of going to class, writing papers and studying for exams… that statement still holds true. God is just as powerful and present in the mundane as He appears during a conference.
Remember when David Sliker spoke to all of us in a deep and meaningful way and said, “I want to be able to tell the person next to me about Jesus, but I’d also love to be able to form coherent sentences about life.” I mean… Real talk.
Thankfully, it’s okay that loving Jesus gets a little messy sometimes, and sharing His love doesn’t have to be a flawless statement or word-for-word memorization of scripture. We can speak the word of God clumsily, broken and weak and the Holy Spirit will handle the rest.
1 Peter 2:9-10
You are a chosen people…called to declare the praises of Him.
Your calling is about so much more than your ministry, the number of students in your BASIC group, and the number of followers on your Instagram account. It’s about the heart that is still crying out to God when nobody else is watching.
I recently read a quote that stood out to me about how we prioritize our prayer time. It said, “It is not a matter of time so much as a matter of heart; if you have the heart to pray, you will find the time.” So, just as this quote challenged me, I want to challenge you to spend more time with God than binge watching the latest series on Netflix. Spend more time praying than gossiping with your friends. Spend more time in the word than on your phone and watch what God does.
If you begin to seek God with your whole heart, not only will you find Him, but you’ll also gain access to the good things He has to offer and you’ll continue to be empowered to share His goodness across your campus. When you start to crave more of God, change happens. Your brokenness will heal, your weariness will strengthen, and your emptiness will start to become an overflowing cup of His presence.
We pray that what God did in your hearts throughout BASICCON doesn’t subside, but flourishes as you continue to press on throughout the rest of the semester. Somewhere, someone is depending on you to do what God has called you to do.
We are so excited to hear the testimonies of how God ministered to your heart during BASICCON and empowered you to take a risk and share His love with the people on your campus.
With Jesus, you are empowered and you are strong. You are called, you are confident, you are capable, and you have the authority in Christ to change your campus… and over here at BASIC, we’re rooting for you too.
