Ice Breakers That Are Actually Fun

Let’s face it. Most times people do ice breakers they are either awkward, boring or a lot of work to pull off successfully. But what if you could come up with some ice breaker games that have already been proven to work with large audiences?

No, you don’t have to scour the internet for hours to find just the right website (been there). And it’s not some big secret either. All you need to do is some quick research on several popular TV shows.

I remember growing up watching “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” with stars like Drew Carey and Wayne Brady. In fact, my family enjoyed it so much that we would tape (yes, as in recording onto VHS) a bunch of episodes and watch them back to back. We were binge watchers long before Netflix.

Although not all the games they played can translate to your college ministry, many of them would work great as ice breakers. Scenes from a hat, props, helping hands and the alphabet game are just a few that I can think of working well. Here’s a whole list with descriptions of the different games and you can find many of the old episodes on youtube.

If you’re looking for something a little more recent, Jimmy Fallon also plays games with his guests on The Tonight Show that are perfect for ice breakers. A few that come to mind that could work well are lip sync battles, water war, egg Russian roulette and word sneak. Here’s how you play those games and you can youtube them as well.

Between those two TV shows you can find plenty of ideas to liven up your meetings and add a little fun. Are there others that could work I haven’t thought of? I’d love to hear them, so please share in the comments below.
