God is awesome. (As in, awe inspiring.) Old hat, you might say, but, seriously, sometimes we forget this simple and profound truth. I know…crazy, but it happens.
In fact, I’ve grown into the habit of often beginning my prayers with this simple phrase, “God, you are God.” Again, deep, right? But sometimes I need to be reminded: God is God, and that means something!
In my college group, we’ve been going through the first chapter of Genesis in a series entitled, In the Beginning. And I’m having a lot of fun—so much wisdom! Way too much content to begin to cover in a blog post, but I wanted to share some thoughts from the very first verse which I hope will encourage you today.

First, In the Beginning God
God is eternal. He is the uncaused cause. He is the alpha and omega, the first and the last.
When God sent Moses to lead His people out of slavery, Moses asked God whom he should tell the people had sent him. God answered, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.'”
“I AM.” God just is.

Second, God Created
Now, we’re all creative beings. Have you created anything this week? Maybe some music or a workout routine or a new dish (I often just throw stuff in a frying pan and see what happens!).
But God is creative in an entirely different way: He made something from nothing. Try that!
Further, when we create, we often just tweak an idea or merge a couple of ideas to make something new. God’s ideas originated solely within Himself.
Wow.
Third, God Created the Heavens and the Earth
Have you studied this world at all? It’s absolutely amazing! I’m no biologist or geologist or cosmologist, but I’m clever enough to be amazed by a sunset and the love of a mother for her child. This world is awesome, how much more awesome is its Creator!?
The universe is huge, the universe is detailed, and the universe is beautiful. If you have a few minutes, I find this video (6:26) on the fine tuning of the universe fills me with awe!
God Is Awesome
The word God means something. God mode (omnipotence and invincibility in video games) is called God mode for a reason!
God is absolutely amazing. God is beyond us.
But here’s where it gets even more awesome: this mind-numbingly amazing Creator God, He knows you and He knows me. He loves us. He’s pursued us, even to death on the Cross that we might know Him and walk with Him.
He’s present with us. He will never leave us or forsake us.

Let’s remember God is God. Let’s praise Him for who He is. And let’s thank Him for what He’s done for us!
