With the end of the school year fast approaching (or maybe your school is already finished) I wanted to talk about a way to recruit more students over the summer. Typically we don’t do much over the summer and usually it’s a much needed time of rest. However, I think it’s possible to invest a couple weeks worth of time over the summer to see a big return in the fall.
Most groups set up a table within the first few weeks of the fall semester to get in front of new students and remind other students that they are still there and available to them. Though that time of year is definitely important, what if you could get your face and name in front of freshmen and transfers even sooner?
Over the summer almost every campus holds new student orientations. Most of the time you can find the dates for those on your school’s website. Many schools will devote part of that time to organizations setting up tables to let the students know how they can get involved on campus in the fall. I’m sure your group has a few passionate students who could devote some time to coming back at times throughout the summer and hosting a table during summer orientations. Those students don’t even have to be student leaders they could be anyone who you feel is outgoing and personable enough to make a good first impression for your BASIC group.
There’s a saying that “repetition is the mother of learning.” Getting your name and face in front of students both over the summer and at the beginning of the fall could be the encouragement they need to come check out your ministry.
