Celebrate Together

Wow! This week officially commemorates two years of writing this blog. Writing almost every week, and sometimes twice in a week, makes this the 112th post!

So, to go along with celebrating the last two years of this blog I thought I would give you a simple and short suggestion this week. Look for things to celebrate in your ministry. That’s it.

Celebrating events together increases a sense of close community and camaraderie among people (not to mention yummy desserts). Whether you celebrate someone getting a job they’ve been praying for, a birthday, someone becoming a new believer, or a student doing well on their GRE exam it will bring your group closer as you celebrate together.

By doing this you’ll be cultivating the type of culture discussed in Romans 12 when Paul talks about love in action. Verse 15 says, “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.”

The only word of caution I would offer is that if you get into celebrating every single birthday you’ll need to make sure you don’t miss any. However, sometimes we get so caught up in the other aspects of ministry that we don’t take the time to celebrate when great things happen.

Going out of your way to rejoice with people in events and victories will show that you care and encourage students to make a habit of celebrating with those around them. It will also undoubtedly teach them to mourn with those who need it when unexpected trials develop.

The upcoming fall BASICcon is an excellent opportunity to rejoice with those in your ministry as God always uses this time to do amazing things in people’s lives. If you haven’t signed up yet you’ll want to register soon.
