The fall ’12 BASICcon was incredible! I was so blessed to be a part of what God did throughout this weekend and can’t wait to hear stories of how He continues to move in students during the weeks ahead.
The theme of the weekend was “I am light,” so throughout the weekend we talked about living as light wherever God has placed you. Here are some of the highlights and testimonies from the fall BASICcon:
- Friday night at least 2 dozen students came forward to start a relationship with God for the first time!
- Saturday afternoon we held a panel discussion talking about how to live as light in the secular workplace. It featured a morning show host, a former CEO of Dunlop tire, a NYS assemblyman, and a college professor.
- We got to hear Carlos Oscar, a Christian comedian, who has performed on HBO, the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and has his own Comedy Central special.
- Dustin Kelm, a world champion unicyclist, performed on Saturday night and shared his testimony of how God has used his unicycling to share the Gospel around the world.
- The worship times led by the BASIC worship band were powerful and anointed. Many students said this was their favorite part of the conference.
- We heard from Peter Haas, pastor of Substance Church in Minneapolis Friday and Saturday night. Andres Spyker, Adam McCain, and myself also preached throughout the weekend about living as light.
- Jon Burgio, Toby Cavanaugh, and Judy Burgio held workshop sessions that students could choose from Saturday morning.
“I have never connected with Christ in the way I was able to this weekend and have never been apart of the Christian community until now.”
“The weekend made me realize how selfish I really am. I’ve been hiding the good word from all my friends who are non-believers. I need to forget about what people will think of me and have my Jesus glasses on at all times in order to share His word.”
“Friday night I was asking God for direction in my life and what to do because I am at a crossroads and then the next morning Andres Spyker specifically said CHOOSE CHRIST and it was just so obvious.”
“Pastor Adam made a big impact on my life. I took off my fear glasses during his sermon. I learned to no longer fear my future marriage or relationships.
Overall, it was an eye opening experience and I can’t wait to apply all of the messages and ideas to my life in order to build my relationship with God. I am light and excited about shining it into the darkness by reaching out to others and telling them all about my experience and what they can do to change their life!”
“God used a friend to speak and pray with me answering multiple prayer concerns.”
“The I Am Light panel discussion was so practical and applicable.”
In all, it was a great weekend and I’m already getting excited for the spring BASICcon April 5-7!
