Throwing An Epic Christmas Party

Believe it or not, we’re on the verge of December already and that can only mean one thing – Christmas parties! So, this week I wanted to give you some ideas for putting together an incredible Christmas party that everyone will want to invite their friends to.

The best Christmas party has fun activities and memorable events that encourage people to interact with each other. If you can create moments that cause people to say the phrases, “that was great when…” and “remember when…” afterwards, then you can call the night a success.

Last year I attended a Christmas party that had all these elements and it was fantastic! The party centered around an epic gingerbread competition. People formed and registered their teams beforehand. Then they schemed and bought supplies to determine what they were going to build. The only things they were provided with were graham crackers and frosting (lots of it), but everything used to create their sculpture needed to be edible.

One team built a castle complete with spires and another recreated the Polar Express. I’m proud to say that the BASIC crew stole the show by building Noah’s ark complete with an assortment of wildly creative animals that took home the trophy! The secret to making this really great is really pumping it up and communicating that these should not be traditional gingerbread houses. Along with the gingerbread competition there was also a competition for the ugliest sweater (if you’re not aware ugly sweater parties have been popular for awhile now) and best dessert.

This year I’m on the planning committee and we came up with some new ideas to switch it up. We’re still doing the gingerbread contest, but this year teams will be graded 50% on their gingerbread creation and 50% for their team’s costumes based on characters from their favorite Christmas movie. After the gingerbread competition we’ll go out in style by having one person from each team compete in a dance off while wearing their costumes.

It should be a hilarious and fun time together. These are some ideas for what you could do to throw a great Christmas party, but I’m sure there are many others out there. I actually heard something about a “Do it BASIC style!” themed party in the works. So, what ideas is your group working on or what have you done in the past?
