Become a College Ministry Expert

Awhile back I read a blog post from Benson Hines. Benson is a well-known college ministry blogger who spoke at our college leadership event earlier this year. In that post he said, “There’s a big difference between the campus ministry with leaders who simply aren’t learners… and the campus ministry with leaders who actively, regularly learn from others about the work of collegiate ministry.”

Benson is one of the most eager learners I have ever met. I have definitely seen what he said about learning to be true as I travel around the BASIC network and visit other campus ministries. Since I started working with BASIC three years ago I’ve realized the value of regularly seeking to learn new things. Just by visiting this blog you’ve shown that you also see the value in learning.

My question to you this week is, “Are you a college ministry expert?” I understand that it takes quite a bit of work to be considered an expert, so you may never have the chance to reach that status. Even so, I wanted to challenge you to take some time over the break to learn as much as you can about college ministry and the students we serve.

There wasn’t always many resources available for those in college ministry, but in the last couple years the number has greatly increased, especially online. You could start by looking through the blogs or picking up one of the books listed on the right of this post.

The first college ministry blog that I ever read was Benson’s Exploring College Ministry blog and I’ve found it to be very helpful over the years. He posts almost daily, so there are plenty of old posts to look through.

What resources have been most helpful to your college ministry?
